I got this brush about 2 years ago as a gift from my girlfriend, it does what you'd expect from a badger brush, makes a nice lather and holds a fair amount of water.
For those complaining about smell, badger hair is hair that actually comes from a wild animal, that's why it smells. This can be fixed by washing it with shampoo and rinsing it out, repeating as necessary. It doesn't do any damage to the brush.

Ok the skinny on this brush is, it does the job but has a stinky smell to it. Now it's not unbearable or will run the wife away but there is a Oder.
At the same time I couldn't justify spending an additional $100+ on an upgraded brush after purchasing a razor, blades, shave kit, and brush stand.
I'm not sure how much of better of a shave I would have gotten with a better brush bc WOW did I get a great shave. I love TAOS

I've used this for about a month or so. My first brush. I was very pleased with the lather it gave and how it really made the shaving cream go a long way (could relather 2-3 times with just a little).
But then I started doing some research on the different type of hair and brushes. I got a Rooney Best shaving brush for Christmas and it's just hands down better. It's just a little bit more than this one, but I totally think it's worth the money.
I've never tried the AoS Best hair brushes before. They could be equally good.
But definitely spend the extra money for the Best Badger of Pure.

I received the kit with the Black Badger Brush and the odor from the brush is way to foul for me to use it. Is there anyway to get rid of the smell? I love everything about the kit and one of the finest and thoughtful gifts I've received ever!
