Product Description: The first double-edged or safety razors were manufactured in 1901 by Gillette. The Art of Shaving has continued the tradition of shaving with these types of razors by offering an elegant selection of safety razors, handmade by MERKUR in Solingen, Germany. The chrome plated safety razor has a straight comb, long sturdy handle shaped like a barer pole. We use the same high standards of quality and manufacturing as were used in 1901, and the best possible quality steel available today .

Rated 5 out of 5 by First time user I am a first time user of a safety razor. I was a little hesitant at first because the hairs around my jaw and neck grow in every direction. However, after a friend recommended the razor I thought what the heck. I knew going in that if this worked i would save a ton of money in the long run. I have been using the oil, cream, and lotion for a little while now so i am somewhat familiar with the products at the store. I must say i followed the instructions to the tee and i love the results a very smooth close shave that i could never get with a multi-blade razor. I did use extra oil for the first time at the insistence of the salesman. April 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good razor for first timer I have been using all the AOS products with a regular Mach 3 until recently. I decided to change to a safety razor based on recommendations plus it seems pretty cool. It really pays to go into the store and hold each razor if you can. I thought I had an idea of what I wanted and after going back and forth this was the one I wanted. It is shorter but heavier than my Mach 3. There was no difficulty adjusting to a shorter handle. Actually it makes things easier. The weight and heft also helps a beginner learning the amount of pressure needed. I gave it 4 out of 5 because while I have nothing but praise for this razor it is my first dual edge blade and I am thinking now that I might have preferred the razors that have an adjustable angle? This razor is pretty popular. After I have spoken about it to a few friends it is the one several other friends had purchased. I am also not sure the Merkur blade it came with (and only brand sold by AOS) is the best for me. There are several other online sites that sell sample packs of different brands to determine which blade is best for you. It varies from person to person. November 9, 2012
