This razor was purchased for me the other day. It was advertised as "shave ready". Upon receiving the razor and an attempted shave, it became obvious it was not sharp. I went against recommendations and stropped the razor, it was no different afterwards. After talking with customer service, I was told there was nothing they can do because the edge "varies from razor to razor" and to try stropping it. So that means one of these razors was shave ready, and they labeled the rest as such. If you're interested in this, or any razor from Art of Shaving, expect to send it to a professional to have it honed for an extra $25 as soon as you get it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by navychief Beautiful razor...however get it honed!
This straight razor (SR) is absolutely gorgeous and weighs nicely in the hand. The tang and the tail are nicely sized for larger fingers to have enough space and not feel crowded. The bone handle has it's own character.
However, there's one problem. Given the cost of this SR and it being one of their more luxurious SRs, you would hope that this razor would be hand sharpened...it is not. The factory sharpening of the Theirs-Issard is not enough to give you a comfortable shave (no cuts or tugging). Highly recommend this razor receive a professional honing before use.
Don't quite understand why TAOS doesn't provide this service with the purchase of a straight razor???
