Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Shave Kit Spoils Me! I love this kit! I was a little bit hesitant to try this product as I have extremely sensitive skin. Boy was I blown away. The amazing lemon scented product knocked my socks off. My skin felt great and I had no acne problems the following day. I will recommend this product to any guy I know. The pre shave oil was a bit weird at first as I had never used a product like it before but it makes a world of difference. The shaving cream was shocking as Im used to shaving cream in a spray can but the brush and lemon cream were amazing and soothing. The after shave was the icing on the cake. My skin felt amazing when I was done shaving. I have nothing bad to say about this product. If it came with a straight razor it would add to the experience and be an ultimate gift this holiday season. 2 thumbs up on this one. November 20, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by A Great Shave, for a less-than-reasonable price So firstly, I am no stranger to The Art of Shaving products. About 2 years ago I started using their products exclusively. Then about a year ago I started shaving with straight razors. When I embarked on this undertaking, I consulted my barber whom I trust with all things grooming, and he opened my eyes to a lot of knowledge. In the year since, I have weened off of The Art of Shaving products and replaced them with others I prefer for various reasons. For someone just getting into the ritual of the proper shave, The Art of Shaving kits are a good place to start, as they give you everything you need and are mostly high quality products. Keep in mind, every man's face is different, every man's beard is different. So there isn't a one-product-fits-all by any means when it comes to shaving. In the past, I preferred the Sandalwood kit simply for the aroma (you can't beat sandalwood). The Lemon aroma in this kit was a pleasant surprise. The zest was very refreshing, and not at all what I dreaded. Hearing Lemon made me think shaving your skin and citrus do NOT mix. The reason I went away from The Art of Shaving's pre-shave oil is because it's very thick for a shaving oil, thus you have to use more to cover your face. A thinner oil or even a cream is preferable in this case. I have a very thick beard, and it takes twice as much of this thicker oil than it does another one of these mentioned alternatives. The shaving cream was much lighter and frothier than the Sandalwood cream, and it lathered and covered easier. Anyone that shaves with a straight razor knows it takes longer than with a mach 5, and this shaving cream tends to dry out before you finish. It's something you just have to deal with, and usually I lather only parts of my face at a time, to keep the shaving process manageable and to keep the cream from drying on my skin (and drying OUT my skin). If you're using a disposable razor or one with replaceable heads, you won't have this problem. As far as the badger brush goes, I love them. In fact, I still use the one I got in my very first The Art of Shaving kit. If you take care of them (i.e. rinse out after every use and dry hanging) they will last quite a while. Know also that there are different stiffness-es of brushes also for courser beard hair or more sensitive skin, so don't feel like you're stuck with this brush if it's uncomfortable. The after shave lotion was pleasant as always. It's creamy, soothing, and the lemon zest again was nice and refreshing. Always rinse your face after shaving with COLD water before you apply a lotion like this. It closes the pores and prevents ingrown hairs. I've always liked the after shave lotions because they don't sting like traditional aftershaves, and they moisturize your skin. Healthy skin makes shaving an even better experience. You'll see less irritation after each successful shave. Now for my soapbox. Most people don't know this, but The Art of Shaving is owned by Gillette, hence the ridiculous markup on all of the products. We truly lucked out receiving this kit as a BzzKit, because they aren't lying, just the badger brush is $120. The Art of Shaving products are very good quality, but there are other products out there of equal and dare I say better quality for half the price. If you have the money to spend, by all means, it's a great one-stop shop for all your shaving needs (except they don't sell razor blades and I also heard that most stores have even stopped selling the razor handles). If you want a more affordable way to shave, and are like me and would rather support your local barber instead of handing money to a mega-corporation like Gillette, look elsewhere. You can definitely find what you need for a cheaper price. Happy shaving :) November 19, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by The Art of Shaving meets its newest student The Art of Shaving Full Size Kit in the Lemon Aroma was sent to my door. this kit brings in a full shaving experience for the at home user with oils and creams. I have always been an electric razor user so having this kit with me was going to be a big change. I moved away from razor blades because of using gels and creams while always cutting up my face. With the first 2 uses of The Art of Shaving kit I noticed my skin was not becoming irritated or getting cut up like it would when I would use water and shaving cream alone. I thought I would have burns on my face using the lemon scent but it does not sting. I have used after shaves that made me regret shaving in the first place and this is not one of them. I felt a cool clean feeling. I did need some practice in how to use the brush as I was not an avid user of one before. I would say that is my only draw back to the product that the directions for using the brush were not predominant in how to use. The price tag is at 120 dollars for this kit which sounds like a lot but for as many uses you get from it compared to the cost of the same barbershop feeling it does pay for itself. November 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow this stuff smells good I love the scent! I would recommend not letting little kids get near the Shaving cream though. It really does smell like lemon icing. I don't tend to be one to spend a year trying to shave so it's been a bit of a chore with all the steps that the kit says you should follow. I don't see much difference when I use the pre-shave oil, but the shaving cream is very good. It takes very little to get a good lather with the brush, and the aftershave balm is very soothing and help to avoid razor burn. Over all it's a great kit and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good set of shaving products that work well together and don't override each other with a bunch of different smells.
