Rated 5 out of 5 by "up from the ground came a bubbling 'review'....Oil that is" The Art of Shaving company was kind enough to send me a complimentary Art of Shaving Full Size Kits to tackle my face. My beard growth is always pretty rough in texture so I am always ready to try a product that has the potential to make shaving a more satisfying and less "nicking" experience. Can't go around looking like a "Beverly Hillbilly"! [ see what I did there with the title? ;) ] I thought I would start with the part of The Art of Shaving® Full Size Kit which I felt gave the most unique experience. The other parts of the kit are great but I feel this one might get overlooked, but I think it gave me the best part of my shave. The Pre-shave oil is labeled as lemon, but it is a very faint scent. When I poured the oil into my hand I was quite surprised how thick it was. It was the consistency of a thick cooking oil. Once I started to put it on my beard I could tell that, to steal a phrase, a 'lil dab will do ya! Just a little bit for each side will adequately coat a normal beard growth...maybe more if you have gone all Grizzly Adams! I could tell that this would really make a difference with my shave right away and that it would really help my blade glide across my face and not catch on any dry hair. Also to note that this oil really helps with the next step applying the cream with the brush. It seems to add to the texture of the cream as well as the ability of the brush to apply the cream. When I was actually shaving I was correct in my assumption that my blade action would be smooooooth! My only suggestion, not really a complaint, is that I would definitely try to use one of those razors that have the 4 or 5 blades in it. I say this because the consistency of the cream mixed with the pre-shave oil will clog up the space between the blades pretty quickly. I would say this is another reason to try to only use just enough oil and cream. The first time I used this kit I did use a 5 blade razor and the second time I used just a 2 blade. I had to constantly rinse out the 2 blade as well as drag it across a wash cloth to get the mixture out so that the blades could do their job. When I used the 5 blade it was not as much of a chore to wash away the mixture. I would definitely say that not only was the Pre-Shave Oil an essential part of the kit, but that I would also consider buying just the oil if I could only get an individual part of this kit. Rated 5 out of 5 by Pre Shave Oil Is An Unknown Must For Men I had never used a pre shave oil before this kit and boy was I surprised when I did. This is a product I will continue using for the rest of my life. I dont know if it was the pre shave oil, or the shaving cream, or the combination of both but shaving was so much smoother. I did not have to shave multiple times to accomplish a smooth shave. It also did not irritate my sensitive skin which is a definite plus with me. Two thumbs way up for this product. November 20, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Too thick for my blood I've used, and liked, pre-shave oils in the past. They're not all the same. The Art of Shaving's pre-shave oil is very thick, so you have to use more of it than you would with a thinner oil. I've actually replaced the oils altogether for a pre-shave cream that I prefer much more. The lemony zest is refreshing, but unless you use a lot of this oil, you won't cover your whole face in a manner that keeps it from drying out during your shave. November 19, 2014
