Shaving Brush Grades

The Art of Shaving offers three grades of badger hair shaving brushes. Each grade varies in hair quality, density, durability and craftsmanship.

  • Pure Badger  The basic machine-made shaving brush is made with dark gray badger hair. This grade of hair is the most plentiful, covering over 60% of the badger, resulting in its affordable price. The bunch of hair is soft and has medium density (the amount of hairs in the handle).

  • Fine Badger  This handmade shaving brush is very soft with a high density of hair. It is the second best hair grade available. Constructed from light gray badger hair that covers only 25% of the badger, this hair is much more rare, resulting in a higher price. The bunch of hair is very soft and has high density.

  • Silvertip Badger  This handmade shaving brush is made of one of the finest grades of hair available from the badger neck and chest. These brushes have a very high density of hair, are ultra-soft and nicknamed silvertip because of their white peaks.
