The Perfect Shave

RAZOR BURN

The 4 Elements of the Perfect Shave ® guarantee optimal shaving results while relieving and preventing ingrown hairs, razor burn, tough beards, and sensitive skin. The Art of Shaving experts tailor The 4 Elements to address specific shaving discomforts. As you prepare, lather up, shave and moisturize, follow their detailed recommendations for the most effective prevention and relief.

Razor Burn occurs when too much skin is removed while shaving, leaving it red, burning and irritated.

What Causes Razor Burn?

  • Disposable razors
  • Applying too much pressure when shaving
  • Products with synthetic dyes, fragrances and alcohol
  • Products that contain agents such as menthol or benzocaine. These agents numb the skin, temporarily desensitizing it to razor pressure or to the damage caused by poor shaving techniques such as shaving against the grain.
  • Poor shaving products will not give adequate lubrication to protect the skin while shaving. Always re-lather before shaving against the grain the second time.

Relief for Razor Burn

The Art of Shaving Pre-Shave Oil protects your skin by helping the blade glide gently over the skin. The Art of Shaving Shaving Cream softens your beard and protects the skin. We also recommend a Badger Shaving Brush which provides a richer, creamier lather, serving as a protective layer against the skin and allowing for a closer shave. Use The Art of Shaving After-shave Balm or Gel every time you shave to replace the thin layer of skin that is removed during the shave, and to prepare the skin for the next day’s shave. The Art of Shaving highly recommends the After-shave Mask® to soothe and regenerate the skin.
